Verizon’s Global 3G Modem For ZTE Has Been Seen At The FCC

Verizon Wireless is one-pointedly looking at dominated the US roaming market. So it has to offer hardware capable of taking advantage of high download speeds that many global countries offer to their customers. So that means that no EV-DO modem will do. An EV-DO with EDGE may be somewhat okay, but will still not stand the test of time.

Spotted at the FCC was a new USB modem, bearing the Verizon brand name – this is the A3700 from ZTE. The ZTE A3700 has it all, as far as wireless technology at any frequency is concerned. In addition to EV-DO, it has also got GSM/EDGE and HSPA. So you can be assured of decent speeds that do not tire the hell out of you.

That seems like great news for us all, yes, but there is one downside here. It is that this is one of the most terrible-looking modems we have ever set our sights on. Of course, we are hoping this device will come of some good use when we desperately need roaming capability.

Digicel And ZTE Announce The Launch Of The Coral-200-Solar Solar-Powered Handset

All efforts are being made by many research organizations to try and reduce power consumption, be they digital or electronic consumer devices. Digicel Group has now launched the Coral-200-Solar, the world’s very first solar-powered mobile phone. The Coral-200-Solar is manufactured by ZTE and uses proprietary technology from the Dutch-based innovator, Intivation.

Digicel is known to provide low-cost and free portable solar chargers in many markets. Now, Digicel’s new concept of launching the Coral-200-Solar with an integrated, built-in solar charger, is expected to lap up most of the market sales. There are an estimated two billion people worldwide, who have little or no access to electricity. In such markets, the idea of a mobile handset powered by solar energy will be greatly appreciated.

Digicel, Intivation and ZTE have pooled in their experience and expertise to bring this novel idea to the mobile market. The Coral-200-Solar ‘sun-powered’ handset will be available in select markets from June 2009.
