The world has much advanced in terms of science and technology, but old-fashioned is sometimes still better. We still tend to prefer common batteries, as they are the most affordable and durable yet. Though the idea of using the normal AAA batteries for mobile phones seems ridiculous on the surface, this makes perfect sense as you give it deeper thought. Philips has now made a wise decision by using these batteries to fuel its Philips Xenium X520 cell phone.

The Xenium line, already known for its long talktime, standby and Backupower, now is charged with even more energy, all thanks to the AAA battery it runs on. The battery gives an additional 2.5 hours of talktime and one whole extra week on standby mode.

The Philips Xenium X520 runs on disposable alkaline or lithium batteries and nickel-metal-hydride (NiMH) batteries. The slim and stylish phone has a built-in Smartcavity that lets the battery fit in snugly. With a rechargeable battery, the phone automatically charges from the network. The Xenium X520 will hit the retail market in March 2009.

We all know that Philips, not a great company if you are looking for high-end mobile phones, is indeed ideal for someone who wants just above-average features in their mobile phone. Of course, the Philips Xenium line’s specialty is the tremendously long talk time each of these phones gives you. The only thing that is really missing is their 3G capabilities. The latest introduction in the Philips Xenium family is the X710. This is a Dual-SIM, GSM/GPRS phone that runs on 1190mAh battery power.

With a simple and elegant design, the Xenium X710 has not much more to offer than EDGE. So this one is definitely not for you if you are the types that would rather go for a high-speed HSDPA, with lesser battery power.

Considering that the Philips Xenium X710 is basically designed keeping the Russian markets in mind, though, this phone is pretty decent. It has a 3MP autofocus camera, Bluetooth, FM Radio, microSD slot and some interesting built-in games as well. Take a look at the pictures below and tell us what you think about the X710.
