Word has it that the upcoming WinMo 6.5 platform will be much more customizable in terms of user interface aesthetics and will even support “Titanium” homescreen plug-ins. The latest Windows Mobile 6.5 will also support custom themes outfitted with custom icons/badges, in addition to customized colors and background images. Though not exactly earth-shaking news, we all know and agree that a customized set of icons can give the homescreen an entirely new look. When paired with “Titanium” homescreen plug-ins, Windows Mobile 6.5’s user interface promises to be the most customizable UI on market.

Favorite People Titanium Plug-in

WinMo 6.5 will allow the user to install third-party “Titanium” homescreen panels as plug-ins. Two already-developed “Titanium” plug-ins will prove that these homescreen panels can really be useful – the “Favorite people” plugin and the “TitaniumWeather” plugin. Both “Titanium” plug-ins display information on a single panel, providing more in-depth information with a simple side-scroll of the panel. Take a look at the screenshots and tell us what you think.

Microsoft had announced the launch of Windows Mobile 6.5 at the MWC in February this year. Now details about this have started petering in. Now, Microsoft has partnered with Design Museum London and the Council of Fashion Designers of America to offer designer themes for 6.5-based devices, such as colors, wallpaper, and the like. Take a look at the first designs coming from Isaac Mizrahi and you will be truly stunned. The company will also be coming out with a Theme Generator later in 2009 that will enable users to customize colors of UI elements on their device, pair it up with wallpaper culled from their own photo collection, and send the batch straight to their phone.

This is not all. Microsoft has also announced its full support for the Windows Marketplace at CTIA Wireless 2009 this week, including EA Mobile, Facebook, Gameloft, MySpace, Namco, Pandora, and Sling Media. Microsoft is also tweaking some policies, whereby developers will be able to issue unlimited updates to their apps free of charge, and users will have up to 24 hours to “return” apps they don’t like.
