Sony Ericsson has launched its anticipated PlayNow Plus music service. Currently the service is only available for Telenor users in Sweden. PlayNow Plus is a direct competitor of Nokia’s Comes With music service but this service has been launched a little bit later than Nokia’s service.
Actually Sony Ericsson has released W902 plus which is basically W902 with preloaded application PlayNow Plus. At this moment Sony Ericsson is planning to bring more preloaded handsets for its service and at the same time partner carriers for this service.
The battle is on and manufacturers have been pushing hard to take over the phone world. After Nokia, Sony Ericsson has unveiled its long awaited music store into the content market, this time it is available for use on phones as well as PC. PlayNow plus has an unlimited portfolio of all-you-can-eat access to millions of music tracks.
More countries have been added now (before it was Sweden only), so now people living in Denmark, Finland, Norway, and Sweden are the first in line to get Sony Ericsson media delivery service. Also special edition of the Sony Ericsson W902 Walkman phone will carry integrated PlayNow plus service feature. However Sony Ericsson plans to include 1000 of recent popular tracks both locally and globally with each PlayNow plus phone.
The site initially had a collection of 1 million DRM-free tracks from the record companies of Sony BMG, Warner Music and EMI. Now the service draws from Sony Ericsson’s collaboration with Omnifone and licensing terms have been agreed with all major international music labels – including EMI, Sony BMG, Universal Music Group, and Warner Music – as well as thousands of local music labels.
Sony Ericsson expects the site will expand to other European countries later this year and to be global in mid 2009. The rates would almost be the same as iTunes and in Sweden all tracks sold at a tag price of cost SEK 9.
The newest additions in Walkman phones range, the W902, W595 and W302 are stylish phones including a high-class candybar, mid-level slider and a budget candybar experience.
