Here is a sweet lil gadget – the Novatel Wireless MiFi 2200 3G WiFi access point from Verizon. This little credit card sized device is actually a portable 3G powered WiFi access point for laptop computers, WiFi capable phones, and other WiFi devices. This particular MiFi runs on Verizon Wireless’ 3G EV-DO Rev A network.
The MiFi 2200 is powered its own battery and can enable WiFi access to a single user for up to 4 hours on a full charge. Multiple users can access the MiFi at the same time – only, this will consume battery life more quickly. An included micro-USB cable can charge the MiFi from a personal computer, plus allow the MiFi to act as a tethered 3G modem as well.
Once the Verizon’s VZAccess software is activated on the user’s PC, the device is ready for use. Download speeds here are really fast – they are over of 1000kbps, which is almost too good to be true. When purchased with either a $39.99 (250MB) or $59.99 (5GB) monthly data contract, the MiFi 2200 costs only $100 after rebates. This is definitely good for those of you looking for a 3G laptop modem or smartphone.
