LG Shows Off DTV Capable Mobile Phones

LG Electronics today demonstrated new handsets that are completely capable of receiving free digital TV transmissions over the air. In order to demonstrate how the devices worked, LG loaded its ATSC Mobile Digital Television (DTV) system onto prototypes of its Lotus and Voyager handsets.

LG additionally tweaked the power management on the handsets, permitting users to view up to four hours of digital TV. Of course, these mobile phones were created for demonstration purposes only. This was done just to prove that mobile phones are indeed capable of receiving free, over-the-air DTV broadcasts. LG didn’t say if or when it would offer phones with these capabilities built-in.
