HTC’s Sense UI Will Not Come To “Google” Phones

We have got some interesting news for you from HTC. HTC is now looking to introduce its new Sense UI, the one that features on its new Hero smartphone, to non-Google branded, Android-powered devices, such as Roger Wireless’ Magic.

Of course, this means that smartphones that run on the “Google” branding, such as the T-Mobile G1 and the latest myTouch 3G will not be included in the bracket. This is because of certain licensing terms that prevent Microsoft Exchange clients running on these phones. Nevertheless, something tells us that it is not going to take much time for some hacker to fiddle with this condition and bypass the restriction soon enough….. What do you guys think?

iPhone 3G S vs Palm Pre: Price Comparison

While purchasing mobile phones or smartphones, there’s more to consider than just the up-front price tag. The “total cost of ownership” or the TCO is sometimes a more revealing way to consider the overall cost of a particular cellphone, especially when two phones offer similar sticker prices. As we all know, the two hottest smartphones this season are the Palm Pre and Apple iPhone 3G S. Both are available for the same price – $200 when purchased with new 2-year contract. So, the question is, which is the most ideal one?

Palm Pre

Phone bill comparison site BillShrink crunched the numbers and have now posted a new comparison of the iPhone 3G S, T-Mobile G1 and Palm Pre’s total cost of ownership. The results reveal that the Palm Pre is the cheaper smartphone to own in the long run. A Palm Pre paired with Sprint’s unlimited voice, data and messaging plans will cost you $2,400 after two years. An Apple iPhone 3G S with unlimited voice, data and messaging from AT&T, on the other hand, will cause you a “damage” of $3,600 over the course of the 2-year wireless contract. That obviously makes the Palm Pre a $1,200 cheaper smartphone.

But there’s one other thing here. The Palm Pre can only be purchased with one of Sprint’s unlimited plans, whereas the iPhone 3G S can be paired with lower-cost monthly rate plans. In such a case, the iPhone 3G S’s TCO may not be that much more expensive than the Palm Pre. In conclusion, if unlimited voice and messaging isn’t important to you, both the iPhone 3G S and Palm Pre are likely to cost about the same over two years. But, if you really need unlimited voice minutes and messaging allotments, the Palm Pre is the obviously better deal.
