Review: The Samsung Instinct S30 For Sprint

The Samsung SPH-M810 Instinct S30, also sometimes referred to as the Instinct Mini, includes most all of the Samsung Instinct’s features, but comes packaged in a far nicer design. The physical design of the new Samsung Instinct S30 has very little in common with the original Instinct except for the large touchscreen display. This features gently rounded corners, sweeping curves, and a new color scheme that makes it a lot different from the original version. The touch sensitive area below the display is used for the call send, home, and back buttons. Hardware keys, such as those on the Samsung Finesse, could have been better.

The hardware controls on the device are all located along its edges. The reception on the Samsung Instinct S30 seems to be above average, but call audio quality is very okay, both for speakerphone and regular phone calls. The contact system in the Instinct S30 is fairly simple, but does have adequate support for multiple email addresses and phone numbers. The scrolling mechanism in the contacts list is good, but there is no obvious search functionality for those with a very large number of contacts. The built-in voice command app on the Instinct S30 is very good and this phone has a good suite of messaging apps that include threaded SMS, picture messaging, and real email. There are three input methods on the device – QWERTY, ABC keyboard, and handwriting. While the Samsung Instinct S30 is a 3G device, it lacks the faster EV-DO Rev A(INFO) support of the older Instinct.

The S30 has a 2MP camera which is not too good, but has a fantastic photo viewer, though, which takes great advantage of the touchscreen. The music experience on the Samsung Instinct S30 is pretty good too. The web browser is good as well – Opera Mini 4.2 is also pre-loaded onto the device, and is quite speedy to use – even with large websites. The user interface is much the same as that of the original Instinct.

On the whole, the Samsung Instinct S30 is reasonably good-looking, offers good features and is quite worth your money. We will be posting videos of the smartphone very soon, so be sure to check back.
