The X10 Mini is scheduled to release in Belgium and France by the end of May, while the X10 Mini Pro is meant to see the same region in June. The only real differences between the two devices is the Pro’s physical, slide-out keyboard. Other than that, they’re both rocking a 600MHz processor, the Sony Ericsson created “Rachael” User Interface over-top the Android Operating System (which is drastically different than the competition’s skin), and a 5MP camera. They’re the tiniest of smartphones, we’d bet, and that’s probably going to really only cater to a very nice group. Nothing wrong with that, though.

If you’re in that niche, and these little guys seem interesting to you, then start saving: The Mini will cost you about €300, or $410, to purchase, unlocked. The Mini Pro is €330, or $450, unlocked. Sure, it’s not enough to break the bank, but it’s still pretty pricey for these small devices. We imagine it’s that whole smartphone feel. Sony Ericsson (NYSE: SNE) may have a winner with the Rachael, which is set to be announced within two days. We’ve seen the teaser clip and now it’s time to see how this baby actually works. Yap, we have the UI video and I can tell you one thing – it rocks! The first Sony Ericsson Android-powered device will come with a WVGA (480×854 pixels) touchscreen and an optimized user interface that really takes advantage of the whole screen estate… Enough said, here’s the video. To date, we’ve only seen renderings of Sony Ericsson (NYSE: SNE)’s upcoming Android handset, the XPERIA X3 (code-named Rachael), but today we’re seeing some of the first hands-on pictures, blurry as they may be. The gallery shows the phone app, on-screen keyboard, locked, and home screen, so there’s not much to write home about, but it’s reassuring to see a concrete device. If you’re looking for more eye candy, pictures of a white version have also surfaced, accompanied by renders created using screenshots from the supposed user interface video. One of our commenters suggested that UI is actually a separate app which can be turned off if you prefer the vanilla Android interface, which would explain why we’re seeing the basic home screen here. Combined with the fact that the default background on the proper device shots corroborate with the video, this Timescape UI may very well become a reality. Can’t wait to pick up this bad boy? The latest rumours are pointing to a January launch.

Some manufacturers are plum excited about the new version of Windows Mobile coming out in early October, but those dwindling numbers are apparently deterring others. According to the trusted head of Mobile-review, due to the projections for Windows Mobile, the X2 may very well be the last Sony Ericsson (NYSE: SNE) smartphone to use Microsoft (NSDQ: MSFT)’s mobile OS. SE’s interest in Android is palpable, given the X3 XPERIA (a.k.a. Rachael), and the Satio is powered by S60, so there’s no shortage of alternatives. As for what will happen with the UI, it’s hard to believe the video of Rachael, since an SDK for the established Panels was just released, so who knows how future devices will be skinned. WinMo’s not dead yet, in any case – we have no hard and fast evidence of the move, and at very least 6.5 will be finding its way to the original XPERIA.

Those dastardly Europeans have been playing with the HTC Hero for the better part of the summer, but, as the signs have indicated, Sprint (NYSE: S) has announced that they’ll be bringing it to North American shores, available on October 11th. As you can see, those pictures from earlier this week of the chinless Hero from China are exactly what we’ll be getting over here, and I think we can all be happy about the considerably smoother design. The Hero is the hottest Android smartphone out there right now, thanks in large part to its 5 megapixel camera, Sense user interface, and smudge-resistant Teflon coating, but Sony Ericsson (NYSE: SNE)’s X3 Rachael will be stepping it up a notch in the near future. Regardless, let’s take a look at what the Hero is bringing to the table.

Granted that the HTC Hero is absolutely marvellous, but the X3 comes with a 1GHz processor, so we might just be interested in ditching everything else for this one. We’ll give you more information on this one very shortly.
