Palm webOS 1.1 Available, Also Fixes Latest iTunes Sync Problem

Palm has just released webOS 1.1.0, which brings with it quite a few changes. The most important change is the patch note that says that it “resolves an issue preventing media sync from working with latest version of iTunes (8.2.1)”. Many of you may remember that blockade Apple placed on the Palm Pre just a week or so ago. Users of the Pre smartphone could not sync their device with iTunes 8.2.1. (click here to view original post). Now that issue has been resolved by Palm.

Palm’s webOS updates also include emoticons and Exchange support. Besides, its 31st app, NFL Mobile Live is there too, which is great for watching games from the device. Additionally, scrolling through lists, working with push email and IMAP Gmail accounts seems better now. Email alerts sound a bit different and apps even seem to load faster, thanks to Palm’s latest update! Update your Pre and let us know how you found the entire experience now.

New iTunes Software Update Version 8.2.1Blocks Sync With Palm Pre Smartphone

If you have been used to syncing your Palm Pre smartphone with Apple iTunes so far and if you have upgraded iTunes to 8.2.1, you will find that your sync efforts have been breaking repeatedly. This is because Apple has now been blocking Palm Pre users from syncing iTunes with their handhelds.

The new iTunes 8.2.1 software update “provides a number of important bug fixes and addresses an issue with verification of Apple devices”. Quoting iTunes spokesperson, Natalie Kerris, “iTunes 8.2.1 is a free software update that provides a number of important bug fixes. It also disables devices falsely pretending to be iPods, including the Palm Pre. As we’ve said before, newer versions of Apple’s iTunes software may no longer provide syncing functionality with unsupported digital media players.”

Palm does not have a solution right away, so it is advisable for you to stay with iTunes 8.2 for the moment, if you need to sync your smartphone with iTunes. Otherwise, you could also use your USB to transfer files back and forth.

VIDEO: A Verizon Wireless Palm Pre Of Sorts

Sprint now has a good deal of control on the Palm Pre by now. But both AT&T and Verizon Wireless have also stated that they are interested in promoting the smartphone too. Sprint has yet to comment on this one, though. Anyway, Pre-hacker Cleanser has found a way to unlock his Sprint -locked Palm Pre and transport it to the Verizon Wireless network. So the video you will see below is, in a sense, something of a Verizon Wireless Palm Pre.

The CDMA hardware of the Pre is compatible with the Verizon CDMA network, so that was not a problem for Cleanser. But you can clearly see it is a professional hacking effort and cannot be handled by just any layman. Some things have to be tweaked yet by Cleanser, but that, we guess, will be accomplished in just a little while. Ok, Verizon, are you listening? We want you to release your official version of the Pre, so we don’t need to learn to hack too!

Take a look at the video below and enjoy!
