Those that know me know that I love to golf. They also know that I own way too many golf clubs than necessary. As I sit here in my office I’ve got three full sets of clubs… and leaning against the wall are roughly 10 putters that I practice with from time to time. Yeah, I love golf. So you can imagine my extreme pleasure and excitement when one of my favorite ‘used’ golf club retailers combined my love of golf clubs with another love… mobile devices.

3Balls sent me a quick message the other day notifying me of a new promotion. The deal? Get a free BlackBerry (NSDQ: RIMM) on any purchase from their site. Awesome. Now I can jam all of my golf bags full of shiny new BlackBerry devices Of course, the deal is contingent on you signing a new 2-year signature… But if you were going to pick up a new phone anyway, this isn’t such a bad thing. Oh, and there’s also a pesky activation fee you’ll need to pay too (I hate activation fees).

Bell Slaps Rogers in the Face with Coverage Comparison Maps

Some very interesting coverage maps have leaked out from Bell… They clearly show Bell’s new HSPA+ coverage areas in all of its ‘blue’ glory. While not really coast-to-coast (c’mon Bell, what about Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Northern Ontario, and the territories???), check out the dominance Bell appears to have over Rogers (NYSE: RCI). I’d love to attest to the fact that these maps are correct, and while I have little doubt that they are, I’d love to hear from folks in the areas shown here to confirm these claims.

By the looks of things Bell is slapping Rogers in the face continually. It is no contest at the moment.

Rogers I’m looking at you…what’s your next move? Have a Rebuttal?

Note: If you’re looking at these maps and are thinking ‘jeez, there sure are a lot of white areas with zero coverage’… you’re right. Canada is a freakin’ HUGE country, and there are a lot of ‘bald spots’ with little to no population… only beautiful Canadian wilderness. That’s the deal.

Ah, we enjoyed some Bold 9700 love on Rogers yesterday, and now, this morning I stumbled across this one while checking out the new pricing on the Bell Palm Pre! Bell has launched the BlackBerry (NSDQ: RIMM) Bold 9700 for $229.95 on a 3-year contract.

If you’d prefer to stay away from a 3-year deal, you can pick one up for 2-years at $449.95, 1-year at $549.95, or with no contract for $599.95.

Virgin Mobile Canada Set to Launch ‘30-Day You’ll Love Us’ Guarantee

You gotta love Virgin Mobile and their creative promos. They’re always a bit wacky/off-the-wall, but they seem to work… If nothing else they generate a fair deal of ‘buzz’ in the blogosphere.

Earlier this morning, I read about a new 30-day ‘You’ll Love Us’ Guarantee that Virgin is set to put into action. Basically, the deal is you have 30 days to try out any device on Virgin, and if you ‘haven’t fallen for us in 30 days, just return your phone and pay for the airtime used.’ Interesting. I’ve been with Rogers (NYSE: RCI) for who knows how many years now, and I haven’t fallen in love with them. Not even close. However the bigger concern to me is that if I was to ever fall in love with my wireless provider, wouldn’t that mean I have some larger issues that needed sorting out? Seems like an odd thing to fall in love with. Maybe if I should give Virgin Mobile a spin to see what all the fuss is about?

HTC Website Shows Off TELUS HTC Hero

Well what do we have here? Some HTC Hero love on TELUS (NYSE: TU)? Yep, that’s exactly it! To be honest, we kinda sorta already knew the HTC Hero was coming to TELUS… But now word has slipped out via HTC’s website that a GSM/HSDPA variant of the Hero will be offered. No real surprises (so far) on specs, as the new Hero for TELUS will apparently ship with the same stuff we’ve come to love so far. The only question I have left on the table at this point is wether the TELUS HTC Hero will ship with Android 1.5 or 2.0 installed. My money is on 2.0.

Love Vibes iPhone app can grade you love-making skills

Love Vibes goes in line with the saying “there’s an iPhone app for everything.” This particular application uses scientific data points to grade lovemaking, using iPhone’s own movement receptors aka the accelerometer.

The application relies on three separate movement receptors to analyze love making in real-time. Apparently, despite the fact that people have personal preference, there are many things that people tend to agree on. And in that sense, the application analyzes pattern changes, range of movement, duration, stamina and peak progression to produce feedback for curious couples…

The only problem I see is how you’re going to hold the iPhone when making love? Funny. Still, if you want to try it out, prepare to pour out $1.99 for the app.

BlackBerry ‘Essex’, aka BlackBerry Tour 2 Captured on Camera

In some more BlackBerry (NSDQ: RIMM) love from Salomondrin, we’ve got some leaked images of the upcoming BlackBerry Essex! The Essex appears to be the CDMA replacement of the BlackBerry Tour that packs a new trackpad, WiFi (yay!), and a much better camera. No details on the actual camera technology used, I’m kind of hoping that we’ll see some ‘liquid lens‘ love here as per the BlackBerry Dakota post I posted not so long ago.

Stay tuned for more on this one. Rumor has is the Essex could hit the market early in 2010.

Note: Looks to me like there’s still some protective plastic on the screen and trackpad, so if you were wondering what the funny glare and strange hashmarks are on the trackpad… I think it’s the plastic you’re seeing.

Skype Takes over the Canadian App Store

You may recall that Skype for iPhone finally launched in Canada last week. The app has been eagerly anticipated for some time, and Canadians coast-to-coast are now breathing a collective sigh of relief now that it’s here. In fact, Canadians are in love with Skype so much, that Apple (NSDQ: AAPL) decided to help foster that love… by changing every icon in the ‘Categories’ section to the Skype icon! Of course Apple hasn’t done this on purpose… But if you’re in Canada, pop open the App Store and hit the categories tab. You’ll see a screen just like the one above. Something’s ‘broken’ here for sure, and it hasn’t been fixed yet.

Note to Cupertino: Um, you may want to fix this?
