The latest buzz is that Verizon and Apple are discussing the possibility of jointly developing an iPhone for Verizon’s CDMA network and finally introducing it in the year 2010. Apple’s exclusive distribution deal with AT&T ends next year and analysts expect that the network carrier may try to persuade Apple to extend that contract further.
Incidentally, AT&T had officially mentioned last week that though it activated 1.6 million iPhones, its earnings had fallen by 9.7 percent in the first quarter, whereas Apple posted its best second quarter ever last week, including the sale of 3.79 million iPhones, a 123 percent increase since last year’s quarter.
