RIM is now coming out like never before with its optical trackball feature. It was initially the Curve 8520 that adopted this feature. Now it’s the turn of the Onyx to be spotted with the optical trackball.
We, of course, had expected something of this sort, after having seen this 3G mix of the Curve 8900 and Bold smartphones. Well, we aren’t complaining – optical trackballs look stylish and they are of great use as well. We have no idea about availability – we’ll keep you posted when we come to know. At the moment, take a look at the pic below.

We have now gotten you pictures of a device that are supposedly those of the BlackBerry “Onyx”, a 3G-enabled GSM BlackBerry that is a similar, though smaller and more compact version of the Bold with some Niagara / Tour features thrown in too.
We had earlier expected that this phone is ultimately destined for AT&T (while a UMA-enabled version might come to T-Mobile as the Driftwood), which definitely takes the edge off of the impending 8900 launch over there. Of course, this is only a prototype, as you can see, and it will be weeks or months before this thing gets launched.
Anyway, we keep our watch for more news on this sexy handheld.
