Verizon Wireless, in a joint venture with Verizon Communications and Vodafone, has now officially acquired Alltel Corporation from Atlantis Holdings LLC. This acquisition makes Verizon Wireless the largest wireless carrier in the United States and gives the company an additional customer strength of 12.9 million, making the total number of consumers go up to a whopping 83.7 million.
The company will continue to use the Alltel brand name for some months, till it integrates networks and billing systems and also upgrades its wireless broadband services. Verizon Wireless will also keep in existence Alltel’s existing GSM network so as to service the customers’ roaming needs. Alltel customers will soon have access to the largest national mobile-to-mobile calling community, so that they can talk to Verizon Wireless customers using their mobile-to-mobile minutes, without spending their plan minutes.

Alltel Mobile E-mail will automatically be included with Windows Mobile smartphones with the inclusion of the all-new HTC Touch Pro, HTC Touch Diamond, HTC PPC 6800, HTC Touch, Motorola Q, Motorola Q9c and Palm Treo 700wx. You can also download this e-mail application on select handsets like the Samsung Delve, LG Scoop, Samsung Hue, MotoRAZR V3a and MotoK1m.
