LG Electronics unveiled the world’s first ever LTE-enabled mobile device, its first data card technology standards during the GSMA, based on 3GPP Long Term Evolution (LTE) Mobile World Congress 2009. The company has developed this modem chip solution independently. This modem chip is the most vital aspect required to create a viable 4G handset containing the LTE technology. This revolutionary step taken by LG goes toward creating a market-ready 4G phone. Handsets based on this LTE technology are said to be able to support download speeds of about 100Mbps and upload speeds of 50Mbps, while using 2 antennae.

LG displayed the versatility of its new introduction by connecting three data cards to 3 different devices, a laptop, a netbook and a Mobile Internet Device or MID.
