Samsung Impression – Review

The Samsung Impression seems to have it all: good looks, large touch screen, solid keyboard, and a host of attractive features. If you’re the heavy messaging type and want a physical QWERTY keyboard, but still like the appeal of a touchscreen, the Impression, well, impresses… for the most part. The Impression is just the right size smartphone. The display is generous and finger friendly and the rounded design is very convenient. The three buttons on the face of the phone have good travel and feedback, but they do make some noise.

Some of the keys stand out nicely and are easy to find and use, but most are not. The slider QWERTY keyboard is comfortable to use, though the sliding mechanism isn’t all that great. The Impression has an OLED screen with 240 x 400 pixels, but the quality is a bit hazier than normal. the strength of haptics can be manipulated by the user and is better than expected. The AT&T’s connectivity on the Impression is pretty good, though. The sound quality is good and so is the vibe. The battery is passably good too, so no hassles there.

All-in-all, the Samsung Impression, though stylish in appearance and good enough in function, is nothing to particularly rave about. Check out the pics below.

oooh no! The Impression is most definitely NOT “just the right size smartphone”. For the record, it is not a smartphone. It is, however, nicely sized.

worst phone i have ever had. i love samsung phones, but seriously? it freezes, cant hold many text messages, and the battery is terrible. dont buy this phone. ive had it for a week and im returning it tomorrow. i had a blackjack 2 before and would gladly take it over this… it had been dropped in a lake and still works better.

You should do stand-up comedy. Just kidding.
The battery on mine lasted about 48 hrs without charge (texting, taking pictures..etc). I normally charge it every night, but I decided to test the battery life. Whenever a phone is used to its fullest potential, the battery tends to run down quickly. There aren’t many phones out there that last more than a couple of days on a single charge. Honestly, the Blackjack II and the Samsung Impression are two totally different devices and are almost incomparable.
I can’t believe how nice the touch screen is–in both responsiveness and quality. The lock button is the biggest problem (though easy to get used to) with this phone, and perhaps the fact that you can only store two phone numbers for each contact. It has the best full QWERTY keyboard TO DATE on a cellular device in my opinion, and the camera takes beautiful pictures under good lighting conditions as well. It is a little bulky, but it has to be to support the size of the keyboard and the depth of the touch screen, especially since it is a slider. For a non smart-phone, it is a top-of-the-line device. In fact, it’s the nicest non-smart-phone at&t currently has to offer (especially along with that buy one, get one promotion).

Brandon, you can have more than 2 phone numbers per contact. I have used up to 5 already for some contacts. Just choose add more fields, select mobile and then done. Then you can change each number to work, home, mobile, fax, other. You can keep adding numbers this way.

Oh thanks. I’m sure I tried “adding more fields” before but must have missed it.

does anyone know how many txts this phone holds? Thanks!

There’s a delete all texts button that takes a second to push….I’ve never filled up the texts so I don’t know. Don’t let that hold you back on this phone. The big pullout keyboard and nice screen make it a great text phone especially if you have big hands where smaller text boards suck

All phones come w/ a delete all button… Im just wondering how many it can hold without having to use it. “Impression Owner” I know you said u havent filled it up.. but may i ask where you are now? 100’s…200’s…400?

Thanks!

I’m trying to decide between the Xenon or the Impression- i really need to know how many texts it’ll hold because I text over 20,000 texts a month. Also, is the impression worth the 100$ more?
