Qualcomm’s Collaboration with Microsoft Reshapes the Smartphone Market
Qualcomm’s Mobile Station Modem???? (MSM????) MSM7xxx-series, dual-core chipsets feature integrated support for Windows Mobile, as well as a wide range of hardware-accelerated multimedia capabilities, connectivity features and mobile broadband support. The two companies first announced their collaborative relationship in May 2006 and have since continued their relationship to include collaborative development work on the MSM7225???? solution for HSPA and MSM7525???? chipset for CDMA2000 1xEV-DO Rev. A, which are designed to expand mobile broadband smartphones beyond the enterprise segment into mainstream consumer markets by enabling even lower-cost devices.
There are currently more than 20 additional smartphone devices in design that leverage MSM chipsets and Windows Mobile to support a wide range of business and entertainment applications, such as Microsoft Office Mobile, Windows Live for Windows Mobile, and third-party offerings.
