FCC Threatens Amp’d with $100,000 Fine

The Federal Communications Commission Wednesday proposed a fine of US$100,000 against Amp’d Mobile for failing to adequately protect customer’s personal phone records from thieves, The Associated Press reports. This is at least the forth such action by the FCC since January, and comes after matching US$100,000 fine proposals against AT&T and Alltel.

Amp’d responded to the FCC’s accusations in February with a letter saying that its internal procedures are adequate for protecting customer’s records from so called ????pretexting,’ or acquiring records by impersonating customers, but no proof of said procedures was given. The FCC has given Amp’d 30 days to provide more information on its safeguards to avoid the fine.
