i-mate and Japan Communications Inc. recently announced their plans to release the i-mate Ultimate 8502 smartphone, for the first ever time in Japan. i-mate has now received the JATE/TELEC certifications necessary to launch its product in the world’s most advanced cellular market. JCI has been actively supporting i-mate for a long time and will now be the pioneer company to introduce the Ultimate 8502 smartphone in this country. It will also offer users unlocked-SIM facilities.

JCI, known to develop the world’s most flexible environment for developing on Windows Mobile, is just the right company to open up i-mate’s market potential in Japan. The i-mate Ultimate 8502 touch screen device offers Windows Mobile 6.1, QWERTY-type keyboard, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, clear audio and video recording and playback, Microsoft Office Mobile, PC Sync and many more facilities.

i-mate’s Japanese customers will also receive exclusive access to its i-Q solutions suite. This enables the user to lock, alarm and protect their device in case of thefts. i-mate collaborating with JCI is expected to create a major boom for i-mate in Japan, while also offers citizens of that nation with a much wider choice of smart, cutting-edge cell phones.

Los Angeles, California – i-mate, the Windows Mobile specialist OEM, announced that it has developed the next generation of devices for Windows SideShow, after the success of i-mate’s Momento wireless digital picture frame with Windows SideShow and Windows Rally technologies. The new View 2010 device is a wall-mounted or portable information display, which harnesses the power of Windows SideShow to interact and retrieve important information from a computer running Windows Vista whether it is on, hibernating, or in sleep mode.

Commenting on the collaboration arrangement, i-mate’s CTO David Hayes said: “We’re excited to be developing this device with Microsoft, which we believe will take mobile visual distributed personal computing and “Connected Life” capabilities to the next level. We’re confident that our extensive experience of working with the Microsoft operating systems and our core competencies in the mobile device space provide the right combination of skills to develop the next generation of devices for Windows SideShow.”

“We’re pleased that i-mate has created a product that extends the SideShow experience for Windows Vista users,” said Greg Parks, development manager and architect for Windows SideShow at Microsoft Corp. “It is technology advancements like i-mate’s that help broaden the possibilities for our customers.”

This Windows CE-based device features a sharp 14″ XGA touchscreen and long battery life, and will work with external input devices such as a keyboard, mouse, camera, or security systems. The device allows users to view e-mail messages, check meeting locations or flight reservations, watch video, and listen to music without having to be at their computer.

The i-mate???? View 2010 is on display at the Windows SideShow booth in the Microsoft Pavillion at WinHEC on May 14-16, 2007 at the Los Angeles Convention Center, Los Angeles, California.
