Bell Starts Off The “You Could Win A 3G Palm Pre Contest”, But Uses Palm Treo Pro Picture Instead

Ok, here’s the howler of this week, guys. We always knew that Bell would be the official carrier for the Palm Pre in Canada. Now Bell has introduced its new “You Could Win A 3G Palm Pre Contest”, which will supposedly give away a Palm Pre to one lucky participant. Of course, this is great – getting your hands on a Palm Pre, that too free, is almost too good to imagine. But there’s something hilarious that happened here.

When you visit the page that gives you the entry rules, it opens a PDF document that, on the header is a picture of the Palm Treo Pro and not the Palm Pre. Click here to go to that page and you’ll know what we’re talking about.

There is one more thing here. The contest rules state that the “approximate retail value” of the device is $650 CDN. So we can probably assume that this device will cost $649.95 outright, for an unlocked version of the smartphone. Click here if you want more info on the contest. This one goes on till August 31st. Go ahead and try your luck, guys!

Class Action Suit Against AT&T Approved For Former Customers Of AT&T Wireless

Former AT&T Wireless customers who filed a class action lawsuit for being mistreated when the company was bought by Cingular, now owned by AT&T, have been approved to go ahead with the suit. The customers are seeking payment for extra charges plus damages. The subscribers in question claim that their service quality decreased and that they were forced to buy new phones when Cingular took over the old AT&T Wireless network. AT&T fought the suit, and tried to deflect customers to arbitration. The court ruled that it would be too expensive for individual customers to pursue that course.

Here, it should be noted that AT&T Wireless and AT&T are not the same company, in spite of the common aspects of their names. AT&T Wireless was a separate cell phone carrier that was purchased by Cingular. At that time, Cingular had a joint venture between SBC Communications and BellSouth. Later SBC acquired the original AT&T and assumed its name, further going on to acquire BellSouth and thereby gaining full ownership of Cingular, which was re-branded as AT&T Mobility. AT&T Mobility is the AT&T that we refer to most of the time.
