Microsoft officially announced today that they are ready to accept applications for their Windows Marketplace smartphone app store. This will go on air as soon as Windows Mobile 6.5 becomes available to the general public. Microsoft will also be organising a contest called The Race to Market Challenge, which plans to offer winning developers huge prizes like the developer edition of the Microsoft Surface touchscreen table, which is currently used by companies such as AT&T. Motorola has now officially announced MOTODEV, a set of development tools for Android. This will enable developers will early access to Google’s Android development tools, pre-release access tools and even a whole online support community. This itself indicates that Motorola now plans to concentrate on fully exploiting Google’s mobile OS.
Moto additionally mentioned that it would also offer Android apps through its very own online marketplace. Developers picked up by Motorola stand to receive invitations to the MOTODEV summit, designed to bring together developers the world over.
