We just told you how MetroPCS intends to increase business by offering revised service plans and additional features in each plan (click here for original post). Competition everywhere is pretty high. So now, both Virgin and Tesco Mobile in the UK are going ‘unlimited’ with their tariff plans too.
Virgin Media have lifted the curtains off their £65/month tariff, which comes with unlimited call, text and mobile Internet usage. The problem is that you have to sign an 18-month contract. This service does not include the Samsung Jet, Nokia N86 and some other devices. Well, that seems to be a very long-standing contract and not really too inexpensive, so we have to see if this will be as popular as the company expects it to be.
Next comes Tesco Mobile, which has also introduced its new ‘unlimited’ tariff plan. It offers a pay-per-month contract at a mere £30/month. In addition to this, this service is SIM-only, which means, you need to get your own device. This tariff is basically talk and text only. So this is a great idea if you only message and make a lot of domestic calls. But if you are used to making international calls or browsing the Net on your phone, this tariff plan is clearly not for you. Click here to know more about Tesco Mobile.
Orange UK has now joined hands with Universal Music and 4Music to spin off a free music streaming service for a new tariff it calls ‘Monkey’. This service is for prepaid users and it makes data consumption tariffs more viable for them.
With this service, users will be able to create and share their playlists online and will be sent Mobile Ads as well. You will be able to access the ‘Monkey’ service in Orange and Phones4U stores and other channels from September. Channel 4 will also be promoting this bid. This service may be just the thing for those looking to pay less for lesser data usage. Something tells us this episode is going to turn out pretty popular….what do you folks feel?

MetroPCS has now revised some of its service plans and offered more features with them. Their $40 plan now comes with additional nationwide calling minutes, messaging and web data as well. The usual $45 comes with an extra unlimited email messaging service, navigation and social networking facility. The lowest priced plan, which costs $35, includes caller ID and call waiting.
Obviously, these new plans are an answer to Sprint, Boost Mobile, Cricket Wireless and other competitors’ efforts to remain on top of the market. Whatever the reason, we customers are at an advantage, aren’t we, guys?
