Samsung’s Pixon 12 – The Mighty 12MP Camera Mobile Phone!

We had been very disappointed when Samsung’s 12 megapixel cameraphone didn’t show up at the Mobile World Congress event in February. But now, it has finally arrived. Meet the Pixon 12 and its 3.1-inch AMOLED touchscreen with a Sammy promise of fast shutter speeds and quick browsing. As a camera, the Pixon 12 (also called the M8910) brings a dedicated shutter button, touch auto-focus (wherever you touch becomes the focal point) that locks in to track moving subjects, Smart Auto mode changing depending upon conditions, and 28-mm wide angle lens.

The unit also saves images relatively quickly, so you can reclick within 2 seconds. Of course, more megapixels in your camera do not make for better photos. Besides, 12 megapixels translates to files ranging from 2MB to 18MB and beyond. So you decide if it is really worth the storage space and the associated delays when uploading images to Samsung’s Share Pix service over the Pixon 12’s built-in WiFi and HSUPA data. The Pixon 12 will be hitting Europe in late June, other regions sometime in August.

Nokia Creates Ovi Store Application For Select Phones

We told you just a couple of days about the Nokia Ovi Store. Now, Nokia has made an on-board version of the Ovi Store available to a select number of handsets. All devices can access the store via the web browser. However, this new software client makes interacting with the store and downloading and installing applications a lot simpler.

Availability of the application appears to be limited by both country and handset. If the “Install Ovi Store” link appears on the Ovi Store home page, it means that it is available for download.

Class Action Suit Against AT&T Approved For Former Customers Of AT&T Wireless

Former AT&T Wireless customers who filed a class action lawsuit for being mistreated when the company was bought by Cingular, now owned by AT&T, have been approved to go ahead with the suit. The customers are seeking payment for extra charges plus damages. The subscribers in question claim that their service quality decreased and that they were forced to buy new phones when Cingular took over the old AT&T Wireless network. AT&T fought the suit, and tried to deflect customers to arbitration. The court ruled that it would be too expensive for individual customers to pursue that course.

Here, it should be noted that AT&T Wireless and AT&T are not the same company, in spite of the common aspects of their names. AT&T Wireless was a separate cell phone carrier that was purchased by Cingular. At that time, Cingular had a joint venture between SBC Communications and BellSouth. Later SBC acquired the original AT&T and assumed its name, further going on to acquire BellSouth and thereby gaining full ownership of Cingular, which was re-branded as AT&T Mobility. AT&T Mobility is the AT&T that we refer to most of the time.

Nokia 5800 XpressMusic Gets Flash Lite 3.1 Update

Normally, one would expect Flash Lite updates to be delivered via firmware bump, which is a long, frustratingly slow process that can take weeks or months across all regions and product codes for any given Nokia model. But things have changed now, thanks to a new version of Flash Lite that is now available to 5800 XpressMusic owners by a very different method.

The rarely-used App Update mechanism in newer versions of S60 is being used to push out Flash Lite 3.1, which is said to enhance web browsing, add Flash 9 support, MP3 streaming and add a whole lot of other goodies. And guess what? YouTube’s now more usable with this app. Let’s hope the Nokia N97 includes this one too, right?
