It does not happen always that a manufacturer takes a global model and swaps out a component as significant as a camera for exclusively one carrier, but it seems like this is almost set to occur with T-Mobile USA’s myTouch,or G2, or Magic, or Sapphire, or whatever else it is going to be called in future.
The leaked picture of the back of the carrier-branded handset, as you can see below, very clearly screams out, “5.0”. We infer that this may be referring to sensor res. That would be a marked upgrade from the 3.2MP launching on the Magic everywhere else. Not only that, T-Mobile seems to be putting in active efforts to launch high-megapixel devices across the lineup over the past several months.
This is definitely more solid evidence than a spec sheet, which could be filled with inaccuracies, but we are not making anything official till the phone is actually released.

Good news for some of you out there – the Samsung a177 is coming in as a bargain-basement GoPhone device. But seeing how carriers are hell-bent on capturing every single market segment with messaging capabilities, they have still managed to pack in a full QWERTY keyboard.
Conveniently, the device’s FCC filing just came out into the open and so we have access to all the gyan available. We know for sure that this one will be EDGE-only, have a camera and a nice patterned back as well.
We hope to see the Samsung a177 texter phone very shortly in the retail market.
