Rumor is that the BlackBerry 8520 Curve, previously named the BlackBerry Gemini, now has a tentative carrier in T-Mobile and release date Q4 of 2009. For those who did not catch the leak earlier this week, the BlackBerry 8520 features a lot of style changes to the old Curve series, as well as an interesting new input mechanism that will likely replace the trackballs that we have all been using since the Pearl launched two years ago.
The central touchpad will most likely feel a lot like an optical input, like that on the Samsung Saga, but despite the fancy looks, the 8520 will apparently be targeted to those on a budget and launched in emerging markets. We do not yet know about the pricetag bit, so have to wait and watch for more news on that end. With no flash on the 2 megapixel camera, and otherwise just passable specs, it should not be too tough for the company to keep the cost down on this one.

Surprisingly, there was no BlackBerry 9630 Niagara/Tour smartphone announcement at the Wireless Enterprise Symposium as we had all hoped, but you know what? AT&T was more than happy to show off their latest treasure, the BlackBerry 8900 Curve. True, T-Mobile may have already had it for a few months, but the fact still remains that there will be plenty of folks in the AT&T bandwagon who would appreciate the option. It should be out sometime this summer.
Well, we are waiting for more news on this one, just like you guys.

Acer announced a whole bunch of Windows Mobile-based smartphones earlier this year and had previously indicated that they would enter the retail market before the end of 2009.
But now, it seems as though Acer’s plans to enter the U.S. smartphone market have changed a wee bit. Acer has now announced that it has run into snags with U.S. network operators, and they will result in a delayed launch. The best Acer would commit to saying is that its smartphones will be available in the U.S. some time in 2010.
