TIM From Italy Takes The HTC Magic

In Europe, HTC’s Android devices are fragmented among the big players there. This means TIM could end up being the first carrier to offer both the HTC Dream and the HTC Magic as well, now that they’ve popped a product page on their official site for the keyboardless device at a stiff €449 (about $595).

There’s no launch date listed just as yet, but Tecnophone says that the phones are already in TIM’s possession, and that they might be looking at a May 4 launch to line up with Vodafone.

Apple Hits The One Billion Mark With Its App Store Downloads

Apple has served up their 1 Billionth App Store download very recently, and that too, bang on time, on the expected day they claimed they would deliver. Apple jubilantly announced that they have officially seen 1 billion iPhone/iPod Touch applications downloaded from their iTunes App Store. In less than a full year of existence, Apple and the iPhone have managed to make mobile applications as commonplace as an iTunes music purchase, and the App Store’s popularity continues to grow.

The total tally of iPhone applications in the iPhone App Store was estimated to be somewhere around 25,000 in March 2009. With thousands more iPhone applications hitting the AppStore on a monthly basis, Apple’s success with their integrated mobile application delivery model will likely continue.

For the record, it took Apple six whole months to reach the 500-million mark. From that point on, Apple needed just three additional months to hit the landmark 1 Billion download goal! One estimate has 75% of the 1 billion downloaded apps being of the free-of-charge variety. That means just 1 of every 4 downloads put money in an iPhone developer’s pocket. But, that still accounts for 250 million payments going through the App Store! Wow, isn’t that incredible?

Clearwire Sued For Poor WiMAX Service And Unfair Termination Policy

The problems keep mounting for mobile WiMAX network operator, Clearwire. Rising to fame as Sprint’s WiMAX network partner, Clearwire has now started experience a lot of trouble, the latest one being a newly filed lawsuit claiming that Clearwire is misrepresenting their WiMAX network’s performance and then unfairly charging customer early termination fees.

Clearwire is being sued by customers in Washington, Hawaii, Minnesota and North Carolina. The plaintiffs are seeking class-action status in a bid to hit Clearwire as hard as possible. Clearwire markets its service as being a reliable alternative to DSL or cable Internet services, which the lawsuit’s plaintiffs are claiming is false and misleading. Customers have complained of service outages that range from reduced, dial-up quality Internet speeds to complete service interruptions that leave customers without an internet connection. The said lawsuit also claims that Clearwire’s Early Termination Fee is unlawful and is void. It seeks to recover ETF fees for former Clearwire customers, as well as an injunction that would prevent Clearwire from falsely advertising their service and charging an ETF to customers wishing to disconnect their service.
