RUMOR: T-Mobile To Launch The Samsung SGH-T349 With A 20-Key Keypad

The latest rumor doing its rounds is that T-Mobile is preparing to launch the Samsung SGH-t349, a candybar phone that features a 20-key hybrid QWERTY keypad. The t349, to be brought forth as a messaging phone, would also sport a 1.3 megapixel camera with video capture, sources insist.

It is believed that this phone would be available from T-Mobile for both prepaid and post-paid consumers on or around May 20. Nothing is known yet about pricing yet, though. The Samsung SGH-t349 is also supposed to feature Bluetooth connectivity, for wireless handsfree headsets, as well as a built-in speakerphone and support for T-Mobile’s Mobile Backup service.

Verizon And Apple May Think Of Bringing CDMA iPhone In 2010

The latest buzz is that Verizon and Apple are discussing the possibility of jointly developing an iPhone for Verizon’s CDMA network and finally introducing it in the year 2010. Apple’s exclusive distribution deal with AT&T ends next year and analysts expect that the network carrier may try to persuade Apple to extend that contract further.

Incidentally, AT&T had officially mentioned last week that though it activated 1.6 million iPhones, its earnings had fallen by 9.7 percent in the first quarter, whereas Apple posted its best second quarter ever last week, including the sale of 3.79 million iPhones, a 123 percent increase since last year’s quarter.

3 UK Offers Free Mobile Skype Calls For All Time

The latest news is that UK-based 3 has promised to let its customers use unlimited Skype-to-Skype calls and messages without any extra fees. The new rules start May 1st for any compatible 3 headset. Later this summer, it plans to expand to every 3G phone on the network.
The company says it sees the initiative as a win-win situation for everyone, not just the customers, as the hope is it’ll lessen calls to people on other networks, which carries a hefty Mobile Termination Rate fee.

Whatever the reasons, it is great to see at least one company embracing the VoIP service. We are hoping this thing catches on with other carriers as well.
