RUMOR: Dual-mode HTC Cedar Slated For Verizon

Rumor is that Verizon Wireless may be associating with a new HTC handset that will work on both GSM and CDMA networks. The Cedar, Whitestone and Twin are all in the fray for Verizon. But the QWERTY-style HTC Cedar seems to be the most likely candidate to win over Verizon’s heart, especially since it passed through the FCC recently.

This is, of course, still in rumor stage, so we cannot confirm anything just as yet. This news is just based on some logical thinking, really. The HTC Twin, which is also rumored to be dual-mode, is not for Verizon. The full touchscreen HTC Whitestone will come to Verizon only as late as September. This leaves the HTC Cedar and hence we think this might be the one destined for Verizon right now. Sounds probable at this stage, huh? Let’s wait and watch for more info on this one.

Microsoft Building Windows Mobile 7 From Scratch

Microsoft seems to be hell-bent on creating a totally new Windows Mobile platform. The Windows Mobile 6.5 does have some touch-optimized features, but it is still nothing compared to those provided by the Android OS, WebOS and iPhone OS. Realizing this, MS has indicated to people in Redmond that it is looking to hire a Principle Development Manager to help build a new Windows Mobile from scratch.

MS’ job posting reads as follows: “Windows Mobile 7 will change the way you view your phone. We aren’t just building a me-too iPhone or RIM competitor; we’re changing the way customers use and experience their device. In the OS Platform team we are responsible for the OS, file systems, security, hardware platforms and drivers, networking & connectivity, location framework and updateability. In other words, we build the foundation upon which the rest of Windows Mobile is built.”

The way the company is going about this, it looks like the entire look of WinMo will change forever with the advent of Windows Mobile 7. Anyway, the company is hoping for the best and so are we!
