The latest buzz is that Sling Media Inc. has announced that the beta release of SlingMedia Mobile on select BlackBerry smartphones from RIM (Research In Motion). SlingPlayer Mobile for BlackBerry smartphones is now available to Slingbox customers in the UK, the US and Canada. What is more, this can be downloaded free of cost during the public beta period.
SlingPlayer Mobile, which requires BlackBerry Device Software 4.5 or greater, gives the user an amazing home TV experience of local channels, news and events, pay per view and so on, right on his BlackBerry smartphone, employing a standard network 3G Cellular, WiFi connection. In addition to this, SlingPlayer Mobile lets the user manipulate his home digital video recorder and play them as per his preferences.
The list of BlackBerry smartphones that are supported in the beta version are the BlackBerry Bold, Curve 8900, 8820, Curve 8320, Pearl Flip 8220 and Pearl 8120. You can download SlingMedia Mobile at http://mobile.slingmedia.com, from your BlackBerry browser.

Skype has now announced the release of its ‘thin’ client for Skype, the Skype Lite, on Android-powered and many Java-enabled handhelds as well. The Skype Lite version is in the beta stage right now and is available for download onto your device. This works in tandem with your mobile service, helping you make VoIP calls.
Skype Lite for Android and Java-based mobile phones include capabilities like seeing which of your Skype contacts is online for chat, making Skype-to-Skype calls, Skype-to-landline calls at cheap rates, sending and receiving instant messages and receiving calls on your personal Skype phone number.
Presently, the lite version of Skype is available on the T-Mobile G1 in the US and the UK.
