In a surprise business venture, Land Rover has joined hands with Sonim Technologies to create and manufacture branded cell phones. Three such phones are already in the making, with the Land Rover S1 and the Land Rover S2 G4 ready for release in the first half of 2009, the third to be introduced in the second half of the same year.
The cell phones will be very special because they will be tough and fit for practically any kind of adventure travel; will be waterproof, support Bluetooth; will withstand rough weather conditions such as fog, humidity and thermal shock. Why, this wireless device is even toted to be able to stand a straight 1.6-meter drop, from any angle, to solid concrete ground. Do you doubt any mobile phone can get any tougher than that?
Working with designer Scott Wilson, the brand will use GSM-based radio technology. The twin companies hope to market the products to both carriers and consumers in over 40 countries worldwide. Some of us might be skeptical about this apparently ‘mismatched’ joint venture. Well, let us wait and watch for more news updates on this one.
HTC Touch Pro for Verizon features a 2.8 inch VGA touch-sensitive screen, a 3.2 megapixel camera, Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional OS, 512 MB flash, 288 MB RAM, Bluetooth 2.0 with A2DP, Wi-Fi and GPS/aGPS function. It costs 350 USD after a 70 USD mail-in rebate and a new contract.
CrackBerry has the new BlackBerry Stormoperating system upgrade available. It has been said that this upgrade will soon be available over the air as well. If you decide to download the software onto your phone, you’re installing it at your own risk as stated by CrackBerry. Luckily this video shows us that the 4.7.0.75 OS can function and effectively run on the Storm.
It has been rumored that a next possible version called OS 4.7.0.76. will be available soon as well. Though I think we should get past the .75 and work out all the bugs/kinks before thinking about yet another upgrade.
Friendly Advice: Please note that if you download the update from a third-party website, it might void all or partial support from Verizon.
