Samsung SGH-i907 Epix – first smartphone with built-in optical mouse

Have you ever seen a handset with an integrated optical mouse? If not, here you have one. Samsung’s new Epix for AT&T comes with integrated optical mouse function which is located in the center of the device between the right and left soft keys. The mouse can be also switched to a four-way navigation key for more traditional navigation.

With a sleek and stylish design, the Epix comes powered by Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional, and also provides built-in aGPS, Wi-Fi, video sharing and a full QWERTY keyboard capabilities. It has a 2 megapixel camera, microSD memory card slot up to 32GB support, and 2.5″ TFT touch display.

The Epix is ready for AT&T’s 3G network as well as bring a rich business experience like Word, Excel and PowerPoint files. With Napster Mobile and XM Radio Mobile it will be available for 200 USD with a 2-year service agreement and after a mail-in rebate.

HP unveils two new smartphones – iPAQ Data Messenger and iPAQ Voice Messenger

It’s a long time since we last posted a news item on HP mobiles. HP has recently revealed its new smartphone entrants which have emerged on HP’s website. These two new versions are iPAQ Data Messenger and iPAQ Voice Messenger. Both these devices run on Windows Mobile 6.1 Standard Edition.

HP iPAQ Data Messenger is a Windows Mobile 6.1 standard device featuring 65K colours touch screen display with 320 x 240 pixel, LED backlight and a slide-out keyboard. HP Data Messenger smartphone is 160g and 5.7 x 1.74 x 11.4 cm, and has a 2.5mm headphone jack, aGPS, a 3.1-megapixel camera with LED flash. Data Messenger comes with classic 2.8 inch QVGA screen , Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Quadband GSM, Tri-band 7.2 Mbps HSDPA (European bands), and HSUPA. This smartphone is bundled with Opera mobile and Google maps (30 day trial ) enough to run on 128 MB RAM and 256 MB ROM, a microSD expansion, with a 1140 mAh battery.

HP iPAQ Voice Messenger is almost similar to the Data Messenger model but differs when it some to keyboard. Featuring a 20 key sure type-style keyboard iPAQ Voice Messenger gives an ultra look however its a non-touchscreen phone with Windows Mobile 6.1 Standard device like iPAQ Data Messenger. The connectivity and GPS receiver is the same, but the device is little lighter at 107 g and measures 5.0 x 1.36 x 11.4 cm. Despite this it features a larger 1260 mAh Lithium-Polymer battery. iPAQ Voice Messenger has a 2.4” transmissive TFT with 64K colours and 320 x 240 pixel non-touch screen display with LED back light and integrated WLAN 802.11b/g with WPA2 security, and Bluetooth 2.0 with EDR. Its camera includes integrated 3.1 megapixel with autofocus and 5x digital zoom.

Price wise Voice Messenger may come for €399 ($532) on November 5th and the Data Messenger for €499 ($665) on November 22nd and would be available through Vodafone in the Netherland.

Opera launches its Mobile 9.5 beta 2 with widgets

Is Firefox mobile version a threat to Opera mobile browser? Although Opera Mobile is shipped in more than 100 million handsets from major mobile phone manufacturers and operators worldwide but Firefox could be a threat to them. Opera mobile has launched its another upgrade for Opera Mobile 9.5. From the previous version opera has introduced two major changes. First Opera Mobile 9.5 is available for Symbian UIQ as well as Windows Mobile devices. Second, the browser now supports Opera Widgets.

With new beta Opera Mobile 9.5 user can view the full desktop of web pages or zoom in for a closer look like in iPhone and Safari. Opera Mobile is a free application in beta which is just one-click web application. Rather than launching your mobile web browser and navigating to a page, you can click a widget icon and access a web page or application designed to work well with the Opera Mobile browser.

HTC sets Windows Mobile 6 Upgrade Deadline on October 31st

We have a bit of urgent news. If you guys are hands on with HTC device with following models HTC S621, HTC S620, HTC P4350, HTC P3300, and HTC Advantage, be sure you get the upgrade by October 31st.

HTC has posted this bulletin on their website that October 31st would be the last day to take advantage of the free upgrade to Windows Mobile 6. Be sure that the version is for your device. To check the version on your device go to Start > Settings > System tab > About.
